Bersatu Says Membership ‘Clean-Up’ Strengthens Party, Targets Perak in Next Election

SUNGAI SIPUT, April 6 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has described its recent membership “clean-up” as a key turning point that has strengthened internal unity and boosted confidence in reclaiming Perak in the next general election.

Vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the restructuring has resulted in a more committed core membership, allowing the party to reinforce its organisational foundation.

He stressed that the process has not weakened the party, but instead improved internal cohesion and clarity of direction.

Stable Grassroots Machinery Across Divisions

According to Ahmad Faizal, all 24 party divisions in Perak remain fully operational despite leadership changes and resignations in recent months.

“Our grassroots machinery remains intact and active, which reflects the strength of our internal structure,” he said at an Aidilfitri gathering held at Tun Samy Vellu Convention Centre.

He added that efforts to destabilise the party had ultimately led to stronger consolidation.

Departures Seen as Opportunity for Reset

Commenting on the exit of several leaders, including Hamzah Zainudin, Ahmad Faizal said the impact has been minimal.

He argued that many of those who left were relatively new members who joined during the party’s time in power, and that their departure has allowed the party to refocus on its original base.

The move, he said, has strengthened loyalty within the party ranks.

Voter Sentiment Shifting, Says Party

Ahmad Faizal also pointed to changing voter sentiment as a key factor behind Bersatu’s optimism.

He cited dissatisfaction among segments of voters over the cooperation between UMNO and Democratic Action Party, suggesting it could influence electoral outcomes.

Economic concerns and perceptions of business policies were also identified as contributing factors shaping voter behaviour.

Building Momentum Ahead of Elections

Bersatu is now focusing on strengthening its grassroots network and rebuilding momentum ahead of the next election cycle.

With a restructured membership base and renewed confidence, the party is positioning itself to mount a stronger challenge in Perak.
