Atikah Suhaime Says Financial Struggles Once Made Weight Loss Easier, Shares Honest Lifestyle Reflection

PETALING JAYA: Actress Atikah Suhaime has shared a candid reflection on how her financial circumstances once influenced her eating habits, saying that having limited money unexpectedly made it easier for her to maintain a slimmer figure earlier in life.

The Singapore-born actress, whose full name is Nur Atikah Mohd. Suhaime, said many people assume losing weight requires expensive diets, premium fitness programmes or costly health products, but her own experience led her to a different conclusion.

Writing on her Threads account, Atikah explained that periods of financial hardship naturally limited her spending on food, resulting in a significantly different lifestyle compared with her current situation.

She recalled that during those years she often had no choice but to reduce her daily meals simply because she had to prioritise other living expenses.

According to the 35-year-old actress, there were occasions when she skipped dinner entirely and, at times, even missed lunch because she needed to stretch her limited budget.

Rather than intentionally following a weight-loss programme, she said those eating patterns were simply a consequence of trying to manage everyday life with very little money.

“People often think you need plenty of money to lose weight because healthy food, gym memberships and diet plans can be expensive. But my own experience was quite different,” she wrote.

Atikah explained that life has changed considerably since then.

After establishing greater financial stability and building a family with her husband, she admitted that enjoying food has become much easier, making weight management a greater challenge than before.

She said she now regularly buys coffee, particularly latte, and frequently enjoys dinner outings with her husband, habits that naturally increase her daily calorie intake.

The actress jokingly revealed that she sometimes pretends not to have money or deliberately leaves her wallet behind when going out as a way of resisting the temptation to purchase unnecessary drinks.

She described the light-hearted strategy as one of the easiest ways to reduce impulsive spending while also limiting unnecessary food purchases.

Although her comments were made humorously, the post quickly attracted widespread attention on social media, where many users responded by sharing similar experiences about balancing food expenses and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Others viewed her remarks as an honest reflection of how lifestyle changes often accompany improved financial circumstances.

Atikah married businessman Datuk Lokman Teh in January 2024 and has since continued balancing her acting career with business ventures managed alongside her husband.

Beyond her entertainment projects, she remains active on social media, where she frequently shares personal stories, lifestyle updates and humorous observations about everyday life, earning strong engagement from her followers.

Her latest post once again demonstrated how simple, relatable experiences can resonate widely with the public, particularly when discussing the realities of modern living and changing financial circumstances.
