Selangor Royal Family Bids Farewell to Tengku Putri Arafiah Following State Funeral in Shah Alam

SHAH ALAM: Members of Selangor’s royal family gathered on Friday to pay their final respects to Tengku Putri Arafiah Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, the younger sister of the Sultan of Selangor, who passed away earlier in the day at the age of 72 before being laid to rest at the Shah Alam Royal Mausoleum.

According to a source from the Selangor Palace, Tengku Putri Arafiah died at her residence in Section 12, Shah Alam on Friday morning following an age-related illness.

Following preparations for the funeral, her remains were brought to the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, where funeral prayers were performed after Friday prayers in accordance with Islamic tradition.

The prayers were led by Grand Imam Datuk Muhammad Farhan Wijaya and attended by members of the Selangor royal household, dignitaries and members of the public who gathered to pay their last respects.

Among those present were Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah, who later accompanied the funeral procession to the Shah Alam Royal Mausoleum.

The Selangor ruler was joined throughout the burial ceremony by Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.

The burial was completed at approximately 3.30pm, marking the final stage of the royal funeral.

Following the burial, Selangor Deputy Mufti Datuk Dr. Miszairi Sitiris recited the talkin before members of the royal family participated in the traditional sprinkling of rose water at the gravesite.

Also attending the ceremony were the Sultan’s younger brothers, Tengku Laksamana of Selangor Tengku Sulaiman Shah and Tengku Panglima Raja of Selangor Tengku Ahmad Shah.

The funeral also drew the attendance of the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, together with other members of Malaysia’s royal households.

The ceremony was conducted in accordance with royal customs while maintaining a solemn atmosphere befitting the passing of a member of the Selangor royal family.

Throughout the afternoon, mourners gathered at both the mosque and the royal mausoleum to offer prayers and extend their condolences to the Sultan and the royal household.

The passing of Tengku Putri Arafiah marks another moment of mourning for the Selangor royal family, with tributes and prayers continuing to be expressed by well-wishers following news of her death.

As funeral rites concluded, prayers were offered for Allahyarhamah’s soul, with many expressing hope that she would be granted mercy, forgiveness and a place among the righteous.

The royal funeral concluded peacefully on Friday afternoon, bringing to a close the final farewell for the late Tengku Putri Arafiah, whose passing has been mourned by the Selangor royal family and many Malaysians.
