Malaysia-China Partnership Key to Driving Green Growth and Economic Resilience, Says Fadillah

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia views China as a key strategic partner in advancing sustainable development, economic resilience, and regional stability, said Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof.

He said bilateral relations between the two countries have evolved beyond traditional trade cooperation, with increasing emphasis on green investment, technological innovation, and knowledge transfer in future-oriented industries.

According to Fadillah, Malaysia welcomes deeper engagement from China in renewable energy, electric mobility, energy efficiency, and environmentally friendly technologies, in line with the country’s low-carbon and climate-resilient development agenda.

“Green energy and the green economy have become central pillars of Malaysia-China relations, particularly as both nations address climate challenges and global economic uncertainty,” he said.

He made the remarks at the Chinese New Year 2026 reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, attended by Chinese Ambassador Ouyang Yujing and senior Malaysian leaders.

Also present were Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing, and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul.

Fadillah noted that China remains Malaysia’s largest trading partner, with economic ties continuing to expand in value, scale, and sectoral diversity. He said cooperation is increasingly focused on high-value industries such as green technology, digital economy, and innovation-driven sectors.

He added that this approach strengthens Malaysia’s global competitiveness while creating quality jobs and supporting inclusive growth.

On tourism, Fadillah said China remains one of Malaysia’s most important source markets and plays a vital role in supporting the sector’s recovery. He invited more Chinese visitors to return to Malaysia in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026.

He also highlighted the importance of people-to-people ties, including exchanges among students, entrepreneurs, and young professionals, as the strongest foundation of long-term bilateral relations.

Quoting the Chinese proverb “Tong Zhou Gong Ji,” he said the spirit of mutual support reflects the trust-based partnership between Malaysia and China.

Fadillah stressed that in an increasingly complex global environment, strong partnerships built on dialogue, harmony, and mutual benefit are essential for maintaining peace and prosperity.

He reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to working closely with China to promote regional stability, sustainable development, and inclusive growth in line with multilateral cooperation principles.
