Johor records 354 SHMMP violations, majority due to failure to display controlled price tags
JOHOR BAHRU – The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) in Johor has recorded 354 violations under the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) this year, most of which involved traders failing to clearly display regulated price tags.
Johor KPDN director, Lilis Saslinda Pornomo, said inspections were carried out across retail and wholesale premises during the Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Deepavali festive periods, totalling over 1,200 checks.
She said the most frequently recorded offence was failure to display the distinctive pink price label, which serves as an important indicator for consumers to identify goods listed under the price control scheme.
Other offences included cases where traders did not display any price tags at all and a handful of incidents involving prices exceeding government-set ceilings.
She said the total number of recorded violations marked a notable increase compared with 78 cases last year, indicating the need for continued strict enforcement.
KPDN enforcement teams will continue intensified monitoring to ensure traders abide by regulations and protect consumer purchasing power, especially during festive seasons.
For Christmas 2025, SHMMP enforcement will run until December 27, covering nine key controlled items, including imported meat, vegetables and essential cooking ingredients, structured to ensure fair pricing and market stability.
