Pejuang Secures Gambir Seat as PN Finalises Johor Election Preparations

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) is set to contest the Gambir state seat in the upcoming Johor state election after receiving approval from Perikatan Nasional (PN) during internal seat allocation discussions.

The decision marks an important development for Pejuang following its recent admission into the opposition coalition, where it now joins existing component parties in preparations for one of the country’s most closely watched state elections.

PN Election Director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md. Nor said the request was presented during a seat negotiation meeting involving representatives from PAS, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan), Parti Rakyat India Malaysia (MIPP) and Pejuang.

According to Sanusi, Pejuang submitted only one request during the discussions, seeking permission to contest the Gambir constituency.

The coalition subsequently reviewed the proposal and reached a consensus to allocate the seat to the party.

“The matter has been discussed and agreed upon. Pejuang requested Gambir and the issue has been resolved through our negotiations,” he told reporters after a PN seat allocation meeting held at PAS headquarters.

The development reflects PN’s efforts to integrate its newest members into the coalition’s election strategy while maintaining unity among its existing component parties.

Political observers view the move as an indication that PN is willing to provide meaningful electoral opportunities to newly admitted parties as part of a broader effort to expand its support base.

The inclusion of Pejuang and Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM), which has since rebranded itself as Parti Wawasan Negara, was formally approved during a recent PN Supreme Council meeting.

PN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar previously announced that the coalition had unanimously accepted applications from both parties to join the alliance.

He also confirmed that the coalition’s seat negotiations for the Johor election would be expedited through its dedicated seat allocation committee to ensure preparations remain on schedule.

As Johor remains one of Malaysia’s most politically significant states, the upcoming election is expected to serve as a key indicator of voter sentiment ahead of future national contests.

The allocation of Gambir to Pejuang is likely to be closely scrutinised as the party attempts to establish a stronger presence within the opposition bloc and demonstrate its electoral relevance.

Analysts believe the success of newly admitted coalition partners will depend not only on seat allocations but also on their ability to mobilise grassroots support and present candidates capable of attracting voters across demographic groups.

With seat negotiations nearing completion, attention is expected to shift towards candidate selection, campaign planning and the coalition’s broader electoral strategy.

PN leaders have repeatedly stressed the importance of presenting a united front in Johor, arguing that effective cooperation among coalition members will be crucial in strengthening their challenge against rival political blocs.

As preparations intensify, the Gambir seat is expected to become one of the constituencies closely monitored by both supporters and political observers throughout the election campaign period.
