High-Speed Honda City Chase Ends in Crash, Two Foreigners Arrested

Police Pursuit Along Federal Highway and SPRINT Ends Near Damansara Heights

KUALA LUMPUR — Police arrested two foreign nationals after a high-speed pursuit involving a Honda City ended in a crash near Pavilion Damansara Heights early this morning.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Shahrulnizam Ja’afar said the incident began at around 2.15am when police officers attempted to stop a Honda City travelling towards Kuala Lumpur along the Federal Highway for inspection.

However, the driver allegedly accelerated and fled the scene, triggering a high-speed chase involving police officers.

According to him, the pursuit continued along the SPRINT Highway before the vehicle lost control, skidded and crashed into a road sign near a U-turn area along Jalan Johor heading towards Kuala Lumpur.

“Police successfully arrested the male driver and a female passenger, both foreigners in their 20s.

“Another suspect, however, managed to escape following the crash,” he said in a statement today.

According to Shahrulnizam Ja’afar, further inspection of the vehicle did not uncover any suspicious materials including drugs or dangerous weapons.

He added that checks also found that both suspects had no previous criminal records in Malaysia.

Initial investigations further revealed that the vehicle was registered under the name of a local man and had not been reported stolen.

Both suspects have been remanded for one day to assist further investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from carrying out official duties and Section 279 of the Penal Code for reckless driving on public roads.

Police also urged members of the public with information related to the incident to contact the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters operations room at 03-79662222 to assist investigations.

The incident attracted attention among road users due to the dramatic high-speed chase that unfolded along major highways leading into Kuala Lumpur.
