Anthony Loke Rejects Allegations as Defamation, Lodges Police Report Against Chegubard
SEPANG — Transport Minister Anthony Loke has strongly denied accusations linking him to the alleged distribution of funds to questionable entities and interference in matters involving Negeri Sembilan’s royal institution, describing the claims as baseless and defamatory.
The Democratic Action Party secretary-general confirmed that a police report has been filed in response to the allegations, which he said were intended to mislead the public and tarnish his reputation.
Police Action Taken Over Social Media Claims
According to Loke, the report was lodged by his political secretary, Ho Weng Wah, at the Seremban district police headquarters. The complaint targets activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin, widely known as Chegubard, over statements posted on Facebook.
Loke explained that the allegations attempt to portray him as being involved in activities that could incite tension within the Undang institution in Negeri Sembilan, a claim he firmly rejected.
He stressed that such accusations are not only untrue but also carry serious implications due to the sensitive nature of issues involving royal institutions.
Firm Denial of Financial Misconduct
Addressing the allegations, Loke reiterated that he has never channelled funds to any party with the intention of creating unrest or influencing matters related to the state’s traditional leadership system.
He described the claims as a deliberate attempt to link him to unlawful actions without any factual basis.
“This is a serious slander. The accusations are completely unfounded and aimed at damaging my credibility,” he said during a press briefing.
Statement Made During Official Event
Loke spoke to reporters after officiating the launch of new monthly travel initiatives by Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd at KLIA Terminal 2.
Despite the focus of the event being on improving public transport accessibility, the issue of the allegations dominated media attention.
He maintained a composed stance while addressing the matter, emphasising that the issue should be resolved through proper legal channels.
Reaffirmation of Political Support in Negeri Sembilan
In a separate statement, Loke also reiterated his party’s support for Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun.
He dismissed any speculation about leadership changes, stressing that DAP remains committed to backing the current state administration.
This clarification comes amid ongoing political discussions that have raised questions about leadership stability in the state.
Commitment to Constitutional Monarchy
Loke further emphasised that his party continues to uphold the principles of constitutional monarchy, highlighting the importance of handling matters related to royal institutions with care and respect.
He noted that any issues involving such institutions must be addressed in accordance with both federal and state legal frameworks.
Concerns Over Misinformation and Public Perception
The incident underscores growing concerns over the spread of misinformation on social media platforms and its impact on public perception.
Loke warned that unverified claims can create unnecessary tension and confusion, particularly when they involve sensitive national institutions.
He urged the public to exercise caution when consuming and sharing information online.
Legal Route to Address Defamation
By filing a police report, Loke signalled his intention to pursue legal avenues to address the allegations.
Observers note that such actions reflect a broader effort among public figures to counter defamatory statements and maintain accountability in political discourse.
As investigations proceed, the case is expected to draw attention to the role of digital platforms in shaping political narratives.
