Sultan of Pahang Orders Firm Legal Action Against Religious Insults, Stresses Justice Must Prevail
KUANTAN, Feb 28 — The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has called for firm legal action against any individual who insults Islam or incites religious hatred, while emphasising that justice and fairness must remain the foundation of all enforcement.
His Majesty said Islam holds a special constitutional position as the religion of the Federation and must be respected by all Malaysians regardless of their background.
He warned that actions which ridicule or provoke religious sentiments could threaten national unity and stability.
Firm enforcement must be balanced with fairness
The Sultan stressed that authorities must act decisively against those found guilty of religious insults, but enforcement must be guided strictly by law and evidence.
He said legal action must not be influenced by emotions, public pressure or political interests.
“Justice must always be upheld. While firm action is necessary, fairness and due process must never be compromised,” His Majesty said.
He added that any punishment imposed should serve as a lesson while maintaining social harmony.
Religious matters require wisdom and responsible handling
His Majesty emphasised that religious issues are highly sensitive and must be managed carefully to avoid worsening tensions.
He cautioned that irresponsible handling of such matters could be exploited by certain parties for their own agendas.
He said a balanced approach combining legal firmness and wisdom is essential.
Leaders must set the right example
The Sultan said political leaders and government officials have a responsibility to demonstrate strong leadership in protecting religious harmony.
He stressed that leaders must act with integrity and ensure all decisions comply fully with the law.
He added that principled leadership is essential in maintaining public trust.
Public urged to preserve harmony through mutual respect
His Majesty also called on Malaysians to respect religious sensitivities and avoid actions that could cause division.
He said unity and harmony are among the country’s greatest strengths and must be preserved.
The Sultan stressed that maintaining respect for religion and justice is critical to ensuring long-term national stability and peace.
