Selangor Exco Urges Public to Avoid Open Burning After Hillside Fire in Puncak Jalil
SHAH ALAM — Members of the public have been advised to refrain from carrying out open burning, particularly during periods of hot and dry weather, following a hillside fire that affected around 37 acres in Puncak Jalil, Seri Kembangan.
Selangor Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin said open burning can easily lead to uncontrolled fires that spread rapidly, posing risks not only to the environment but also to public health and the safety of surrounding communities.
She emphasised that the public should immediately inform authorities if they detect open burning activities or fire outbreaks so that prompt action can be taken to contain the situation.
Jamaliah said the Selangor government will continue working closely with relevant agencies to monitor the situation and strengthen preventive measures to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.
Her remarks followed a hillside forest fire reported in the Puncak Jalil area yesterday that affected a large tract of land estimated at around 37 acres.
According to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), firefighting operations began yesterday evening and continued throughout the night as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
Several fire stations were deployed in the operation, including units from Seri Kembangan, Cyberjaya, Puchong, Jalan Penchala and Subang Jaya.
The coordinated response from multiple stations helped ensure that the fire was brought under control quickly while preventing it from spreading to nearby areas.
Authorities confirmed that the fire was fully extinguished in the early hours of today, with firefighting operations officially concluding at approximately 3.48am.
Jamaliah said the incident did not result in any casualties or injuries.
She also noted that there were no reports of damage to nearby buildings or structures.
The affected hillside area was located outside a permanent forest reserve, which helped limit the environmental impact on protected forest land.
Nevertheless, authorities remain concerned about the broader environmental risks posed by open burning, particularly during dry weather conditions that can easily intensify fires.
Jamaliah expressed appreciation to the firefighters involved in the operation for their tireless efforts in bringing the situation under control.
She praised their dedication and commitment in ensuring that the fire was contained quickly and prevented from spreading further.
The state government, she added, will continue to strengthen monitoring and preventive strategies to reduce the risk of open burning and environmental fires across Selangor.
