Residents Evacuated After Landslide Near House in Ampang
Authorities Monitor Further Ground Movement Risk Following Continuous Rain
PETALING JAYA — A landslide incident near a house in Kampung Bukit Sungai Putih, Ampang, Selangor this afternoon prompted authorities to evacuate residents from the affected property as a precautionary safety measure.
The incident is believed to have been caused by unstable soil conditions following continuous rainfall that has affected the surrounding area over the past few days.
Emergency responders received a distress call regarding the incident at 2.17pm before rescue personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene.
According to Selangor assistant operations director of the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar, firefighters from the Ampang Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the location about five minutes after receiving the emergency call.
He said preliminary inspections revealed that a landslide had occurred approximately four metres away from the affected house.
“All occupants of the house were instructed to leave the premises as a precautionary measure while firefighters conducted monitoring around the area,” he said in a statement.
According to him, the immediate evacuation was carried out to prevent any risk in the event of further soil collapse or additional ground movement.
Firefighters also inspected surrounding areas to ensure there were no other threats that could endanger nearby residents.
The incident was later reported to the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) for further technical assessment and follow-up action.
The operation involved six firefighters together with a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) vehicle.
Meanwhile, deputy president of Ampang Jaya Municipal Council, Ts. Hasrolnizam Shaari, also visited the site at around 6pm to assess the situation personally.
According to MPAJ, the visit aimed to obtain a clearer understanding of the damage and safety risks in the affected area.
The local authority also confirmed that its rapid response squad had earlier been deployed to carry out preliminary action and continuous monitoring of the soil conditions.
With weather conditions remaining unstable, authorities continue to stay on alert over the possibility of further landslides if heavy rain persists.
Residents living nearby have also been advised to remain vigilant for early warning signs of soil movement such as ground cracks, structural shifts in homes or unusual sounds from nearby slopes, and to report them immediately to authorities.
