Raja Muda of Perlis inspires young athlete Nur Raisya ahead of international baseball debut
KANGAR: The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, has given his encouragement and support to young baseball player Nur Raisya Adelya Sofea Suwardi, 11, who will represent Malaysia at the 32nd World Children’s Baseball Fair 2026 in Japan.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who is also the Patron of the Malaysian Baseball Federation, presented the Malaysian and Perlis flags to Nur Raisya during a special ceremony held at the Astaka Dataran Masjid Alwi in Kangar.
The flag presentation symbolised recognition and encouragement for the young athlete as she prepares to carry the nation’s hopes on the international stage.
Nur Raisya, a student of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Paya, has been selected to compete in the prestigious tournament, which will be held in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, from July 30 to August 7.
The gesture from the Raja Muda of Perlis is expected to boost Nur Raisya’s confidence and motivate her to perform at her best throughout the competition.
During the ceremony, Nur Raisya also received a RM500 contribution from the Tuanku Syed Putra Foundation (YTSP) Perlis as a form of encouragement and support for her efforts in representing the state and country.
Nur Raisya is among five Malaysian athletes chosen to participate in the international tournament, highlighting the potential of young Malaysian talents in the sport of baseball.
Her selection marks a proud achievement not only for her family and SK Paya but also for Perlis, which continues to produce promising young athletes capable of competing at the global level.
The achievement reflects Nur Raisya’s dedication, discipline and commitment in developing her sporting abilities, while demonstrating that young athletes from smaller states can also reach international platforms when provided with proper guidance and opportunities.
Her participation in the World Children’s Baseball Fair is expected to become a valuable learning experience, allowing her to gain exposure against young players from different countries while developing her skills and confidence.
The achievement is also hoped to inspire more students and aspiring athletes to pursue excellence in sports and aim for opportunities beyond national borders.
This year’s tournament will feature participants from only 14 selected countries, with Malaysia given the opportunity to send five representatives to compete in the prestigious event.
The continued support from sporting bodies, communities and leaders is seen as an important factor in nurturing young talents and helping Malaysia develop future athletes capable of making their mark internationally.
