Food court in Section 51A, Petaling Jaya hit by flash floods for third time
PETALING JAYA: A food court in Section 51A, Petaling Jaya was once again affected by flash floods following heavy rainfall that hit parts of the Klang Valley on Saturday afternoon.
The latest incident marks the third time the area has been flooded, with the previous occurrence reported in May when water levels were said to have risen to around 1.2 metres.
Videos circulating on social media showed floodwaters surrounding the food court area, with several vehicles partially submerged while workers rushed to move equipment and belongings to safer locations to prevent further damage.
The repeated flooding has raised concerns among traders and residents over the area’s drainage capacity and the need for long-term solutions to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
A review of social media postings also showed several reports of fallen trees in different locations following the heavy rain and strong winds that swept through parts of the capital.
The combination of intense rainfall and strong gusts caused disruptions in several areas, with authorities continuing to monitor the situation.
Meanwhile, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) confirmed that it had received a public distress call regarding the flooding incident.
A department spokesperson said a fire and rescue team from Petaling Jaya was dispatched to the location and was still on the way when contacted.
Authorities are expected to assess the extent of the flooding and provide further updates once the situation at the site has been fully evaluated.
The recurring flash flood incident has renewed calls for improved flood mitigation measures, particularly in urban areas where heavy rainfall can quickly overwhelm existing drainage systems.
