GAC supplies official vehicles to support Xinhua News Agency’s World Cup reporting operations in Mexico

MEXICO CITY: Chinese automaker GAC is supporting international media coverage of the FIFA World Cup in Mexico by providing official service vehicles for Xinhua News Agency’s frontline reporting team throughout the tournament.

The company has supplied the AION UT and GS7 models to Xinhua, China’s leading national news agency, to assist reporters covering matches, teams and events across Mexico during one of the world’s biggest sporting competitions.

With the tournament taking place across the United States, Canada and Mexico, millions of football supporters worldwide are following the action, while media organisations face demanding schedules involving constant travel between stadiums, media centres, training facilities and team accommodation.

GAC said the vehicles were selected to support the fast-paced requirements of frontline journalism by providing reliable transportation, spacious interiors and comfortable working environments for reporters operating under tight deadlines.

For Xinhua’s coverage team, the vehicles serve not only as transportation but also as mobile workspaces where journalists can prepare interviews, organise footage and manage reporting tasks while travelling between locations.

The AION UT, with its compact exterior and practical cabin design, provides sufficient space for camera equipment, livestreaming tools and other reporting necessities, making it suitable for navigating busy urban areas.

Meanwhile, the GS7 offers a more spacious and refined interior, providing reporters with a comfortable environment during long journeys and demanding coverage schedules.

GAC’s involvement comes as the company continues expanding its presence in the Mexican automotive market, where it has developed a diverse lineup of 10 vehicle models to meet different consumer needs.

According to JATO sales data covering January to May this year, two of GAC’s electric vehicles have achieved strong positions in Mexico’s battery electric vehicle market.

The AION UT ranked among the top-selling pure electric vehicles in the B-segment category, while the AION ES also secured a leading position within the C-segment electric vehicle market.

Mexico remains a key market in GAC’s global expansion strategy, with the company continuing to strengthen brand recognition through partnerships, product development and local engagement.

The automaker has also established a strategic partnership with Mexican football club Toluca FC, forming part of its broader sports marketing strategy across Latin America and international markets.

GAC said it plans to expand beyond traditional sponsorship activities by developing a more integrated sports ecosystem approach, using global sporting events to enhance brand visibility and connect with consumers worldwide.

Through its support for Xinhua’s World Cup coverage operations, GAC is highlighting its commitment to mobility solutions while strengthening its international presence during one of the most widely followed sporting events on the global calendar.
