Authorities confirmed that a police report has been lodged by the victim and that investigations are now underway to identify the individual responsible for the assault.
Wangsa Maju district police chief Assistant Commissioner Annas Sulaiman said the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which covers voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon or dangerous means.
He added that, as of Friday, no arrests had been made and investigators are continuing efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The case gained public attention after footage of the assault began circulating online, prompting concern among members of the public over safety at public transport facilities.
According to police, the victim was allegedly attacked while waiting in line for a bus at a bus stop located near a local university.
The viral video appears to show a man dressed in black approaching another man, who was wearing white, before repeatedly attacking him with what appeared to be a sharp weapon. The assailant was also seen kicking the victim during the confrontation before the clip ended.
Police have not released further details regarding the identities of those involved or the motive behind the incident, as investigations remain ongoing.
Authorities are expected to review available evidence, including witness statements and relevant video recordings, as part of efforts to determine the sequence of events and identify the suspect.
The investigation also aims to establish whether the incident stemmed from a personal dispute or was triggered by other circumstances.
