Jay Iswazir embraces fresh start after career slowdown, says difficult period strengthened his resolve

PETALING JAYA: Actor Jay Iswazir says one of the toughest chapters of his acting career has become a source of motivation rather than regret, as he reflects on rebuilding his professional life after spending nearly eight months without receiving a single acting offer.

The experienced performer admitted that the prolonged absence of television and film projects tested both his confidence and perseverance, but said the experience ultimately reinforced the importance of patience, self-reflection and faith in overcoming adversity.

Speaking after a performance of the theatre production Tarik Picu in Bandar Utama, Jay said the career lull followed the controversy that surrounded his personal life last year, an episode he acknowledged had affected public perception and, in turn, his opportunities within the entertainment industry.

Instead of dwelling on what happened, however, the 44-year-old said he has chosen to focus on personal growth and the opportunities that lie ahead.

Jay said every challenge carries valuable lessons and believes the difficult period encouraged him to become more appreciative of his profession and the people who continued to support him when work became scarce.

For almost eight months, he said, neither television dramas nor film productions came calling, marking one of the longest stretches of inactivity since becoming an actor.

While the absence of work was financially and emotionally demanding, Jay said he remained hopeful that the situation would eventually improve if he continued believing in himself and maintained a positive outlook.

That optimism was rewarded when he began receiving offers to appear in three theatre productions, opportunities that helped restore his confidence and reignite his passion for performing.

He described theatre as an important platform that allowed him to reconnect with audiences while reminding himself why he entered the entertainment industry in the first place.

Jay also addressed claims that he had been unofficially blacklisted following last year’s controversy.

According to him, no authority, broadcaster or production company had ever formally informed him that he was barred from appearing in projects.

Nevertheless, he admitted becoming concerned after learning that several productions he had already completed were reportedly close to being withdrawn from release, leading him to believe the controversy had indirectly affected his career.

Despite those experiences, Jay said he harbours no resentment and prefers to look ahead rather than revisit the setbacks that once overshadowed his professional life.

He credits the encouragement of family members, friends and supportive colleagues for helping him regain the confidence needed to return to the industry with renewed determination.

Now actively pursuing new opportunities, Jay said he is open to television, film and stage productions that challenge him creatively and allow him to continue developing as an actor.

He hopes audiences will evaluate him based on the quality of his performances instead of past controversies, adding that every artist deserves the opportunity to learn, improve and move forward.

Jay’s personal life attracted public attention last year following issues involving his marriage to former wife Azzahra Ahmad.

The couple married in March 2022 before officially ending their marriage on October 28, 2024.

With his career regaining momentum, Jay said his attention is now firmly fixed on the future, expressing gratitude for the second chance to continue doing what he enjoys while embracing a more positive outlook on both life and his profession.
