Malakoff and Alam Flora earn top sustainability honours for fourth consecutive year
PETALING JAYA: Malakoff Corporation Berhad and its wholly owned subsidiary Alam Flora Sdn. Bhd. have strengthened their standing as leaders in environmental sustainability after receiving top honours at the Malaysia Sustainability and CSR Awards 2026, marking the fourth consecutive year both organisations have been recognised for their environmental, social and governance (ESG) achievements.
The awards underscore the group’s continued focus on integrating sustainable business practices, responsible corporate governance and workforce development into its long-term growth strategy.
During the 11th edition of the annual awards programme, Malakoff received the Best Company (Power Generation) ESG Leadership and Human Capital Award, while Alam Flora secured the Best Company (Waste Management) Sustainable Impact and Employee Empowerment Award.
Group Chief Executive Officer Syahrunizam Samsudin said the repeated recognition reflects years of disciplined execution in embedding sustainability principles across the organisation’s operations rather than isolated achievements.
He noted that the awards acknowledge the company’s consistent efforts to strengthen operational resilience while balancing business performance with environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
According to Syahrunizam, 2025 represented a significant milestone in Malakoff’s sustainability journey, highlighted by the successful issuance of its inaugural ASEAN Sustainability SRI Murabahah Sukuk and its inclusion in the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia Index, both of which demonstrate the company’s commitment to internationally recognised ESG standards.
He added that sustainable corporate performance is closely linked to employee development, pointing out that the group’s workforce completed more than 40,000 hours of training during the past year.
The company also maintained a record of zero corruption incidents and zero human rights violations, reinforcing its emphasis on ethical governance and responsible business conduct.
On the environmental front, Syahrunizam highlighted Alam Flora’s continued investment in cleaner waste management operations.
During 2025, the waste management company introduced 308 new waste collection vehicles equipped with carbon-reduction technologies aimed at improving operational efficiency while lowering environmental impact.
Alam Flora also diverted approximately 6,826 tonnes of waste from landfill through expanded recycling initiatives, supporting broader efforts to reduce waste disposal and promote a circular economy.
In addition, the company continues operating the RISE KL recycling facility in Kuala Lumpur, which has the capacity to process up to 50 tonnes of recyclable materials daily, contributing to improved resource recovery and waste diversion.
The awards were presented during a gala ceremony officiated by Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Lim Hui Ying.
The honours were accepted on behalf of Malakoff by Group Head of Communications and Branding Suriati Mokhtar, while Alam Flora Chief Financial Officer Sofia Zakaria received the award for the waste management company.
Malakoff said the latest recognition further reinforces the group’s commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) through its integrated energy and environmental solutions.
Guided by its corporate purpose of “Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities,” the group said it will continue investing in initiatives that promote cleaner operations, responsible governance and sustainable community development while supporting Malaysia’s broader environmental and economic sustainability agenda.
