PH says no directive issued to exit Perak Unity Government, remains focused on state administration

KAMPAR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has reaffirmed its continued participation in the Perak Unity Government, with state executive councillor Mohd Azlan Helmi confirming that no instruction has been issued by the coalition’s leadership for its representatives to withdraw support for the state administration or relinquish their executive positions.

The clarification comes amid heightened political attention following developments in other states, with PH leaders in Perak emphasising that the coalition remains committed to ensuring political stability and uninterrupted governance.

Mohd Azlan said PH representatives continue to enjoy a positive working relationship with the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership in Perak and remain fully focused on implementing the state’s development agenda.

He stressed that, to date, there has been no communication from the coalition’s national leadership directing PH assemblymen or executive councillors in Perak to reconsider their participation in the state government.

“Our focus has always been on serving the people of Perak. We have worked closely with our partners over the past four years, and there has been no instruction for us to withdraw from the state administration,” he told reporters after inspecting a newly completed drive-through pick-up and drop-off facility near Sekolah Kebangsaan Tualang Sekah in Malim Nawar.

Azlan, who serves as Perak’s Executive Councillor for Communications, Multimedia and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), said the existing cooperation within the Unity Government continues to function effectively.

He noted that collaboration between PH leaders and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad remains cordial and professional, reflecting the stability of the current administration.

According to him, the state government’s immediate priority is to continue implementing programmes that improve public welfare, strengthen economic development and achieve the objectives outlined under the Perak Sejahtera 2030 development blueprint.

While acknowledging that political decisions are ultimately determined by party leadership, Azlan said his responsibility as an executive councillor is to continue delivering on the government’s commitments to the people.

He declined to speculate on political developments outside Perak, saying each state should be viewed within its own political context.

The reassurance follows comments made by Saarani a day earlier, when he stated that the cooperation between BN and PH in Perak would continue until the dissolution of the Perak State Legislative Assembly, paving the way for the next state election.

His remarks came after political developments in Melaka, where the state chapter of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) announced its withdrawal from the state administration and the resignation of its representatives from executive council positions.

Those developments prompted speculation over whether similar moves could occur in other states governed under Unity Government arrangements.

However, PH leaders in Perak have sought to dispel such speculation, maintaining that there are no signs of disruption to the existing partnership and that the coalition remains committed to preserving political stability.

They said maintaining a stable administration is essential to ensuring continuity in policy implementation, infrastructure development and the delivery of public services, while providing confidence to investors, businesses and the wider public.

For now, Perak’s Unity Government remains intact, with both BN and PH leaders signalling that governance and development—not political uncertainty—will remain their primary focus as the state moves forward.
