Perak Weighs Budget Reallocation to Navigate Economic Pressures

IPOH, April 16 – The Perak state government is considering a reallocation of its existing budget as a primary strategy to manage economic pressures arising from global disruptions linked to the West Asia conflict.

Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad said the state is reviewing its financial priorities to ensure effective resource management during uncertain conditions.

Reallocation as First Response

Rather than immediately introducing a supplementary budget, the government is focusing on adjusting current spending allocations.

This approach draws on past experience during the Covid-19 crisis, when internal restructuring proved effective.

Supplementary Budget Remains an Option

However, authorities may consider a supplementary budget if conditions worsen and additional spending becomes necessary.

Such a move would require a special state assembly sitting.

Targeted Support Measures

Potential initiatives include diesel subsidies for logistics operators and price-control programmes to maintain affordability of essential goods.

These measures aim to ease cost-of-living pressures.

Investment Outlook Remains Positive

The state has not seen any major investment withdrawals, indicating resilience in its economic fundamentals.

Perak may also benefit from shifting global supply chains as companies seek more stable investment destinations.

Strengthening Food Security

Through the Perak Sejahtera 2030 initiative, the state is prioritising local food production to reduce reliance on imports.

Call for Unity

Saarani urged cooperation across all sectors, in line with guidance from Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, to address the economic challenges ahead.
