Perak Halts Sungai Siput Pig Farm Project Built Without Planning Approval
IPOH: The Perak state government has ordered the immediate suspension of a pig farm construction project in Jalong, Sungai Siput, after it was found to have proceeded without proper planning approval from local authorities.
Perak Human Resources, Health, Indian Community Affairs and National Integration Committee chairman, A. Sivanesan, said enforcement action had been taken, including issuing a compound against the developer for failing to comply with construction regulations.
He said a site visit would be conducted soon to ensure that all directives are fully observed.
“Any development carried out without planning permission is a violation of the law and may result in strict action, including fines,” he told reporters.
Sivanesan was speaking after officiating the 30th anniversary celebration of Pantai Hospital Ipoh in Ipoh.
Stop-Work Order and Penalties Imposed
Earlier, Sungai Siput Umno Youth chief Ariff Zaky Zolkafly claimed on social media that the developer had been issued a stop-work order and fined RM25,000 for each of the seven project lots involved.
The penalties were reportedly imposed by the Sungai Siput District and Land Office and the Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council.
He also alleged that preliminary works for the large-scale project, covering approximately 12 hectares, had been ongoing for nearly three months.
Emphasis on Modern Farming Standards
Sivanesan stressed that all livestock operators must comply with existing laws and modern farming standards.
He noted that about 45 per cent of the 85 pig farms in Perak have adopted modern systems, while another 20 per cent are currently undergoing upgrades.
“These measures are crucial for improving productivity, ensuring food safety, and reducing the risk of diseases such as African Swine Fever,” he said.
He added that the state government would continue strengthening enforcement to ensure farming activities are conducted responsibly, safely, and in line with environmental and community interests.
