Muhyiddin Case: Court Told RM800,000 Paid to Bersatu via Four Cheques in One Day

Kuala Lumpur — The High Court was informed that RM800,000 was transferred to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia through four cheques issued on a single day, during proceedings involving former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

A Maybank officer, Chang Hui Chin, testified that the payments, each amounting to RM200,000, were issued by KCJ Engineering Sdn Bhd on September 1, 2022, and later processed on October 12, 2022.

As the sixth prosecution witness, she confirmed that the funds had been successfully disbursed and credited into Bersatu’s account, with all transactions properly documented in the bank’s records.

She also stated that the company’s account, opened in 2005, had three authorised signatories, two of whom signed the cheques involved.

Earlier testimony from a CIMB Bank representative revealed that RM19.3 million had been deposited into Bersatu’s account through 28 cheques over a period spanning August 2021 to November 2022, which included the same four Maybank-issued cheques.

In a separate session, a former official from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) testified that Bersatu’s financial reports recorded incoming funds without specifying detailed sources.

He noted that the party’s constitution permits the acceptance of donations from individuals and companies, as long as they are properly channelled into the party’s accounts.

The witness further explained that existing regulations do not require detailed breakdowns of contributions, and that many organisations record such inflows simply as “donations”.

He added that while the RoS has the authority to request further clarification, there had been no need to do so during his tenure as no irregularities were observed.

The court was also told that party finances are not controlled by a single individual, but are managed collectively through trustees or governing bodies such as the party’s supreme council.

The trial continues before High Court judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin, with additional banking witnesses expected to take the stand in the coming sessions.
