Malaysia Cruise Into ASEAN U-17 Final After Commanding Semi-Final Victory

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s youth squad booked a spot in the final of the ASEAN U-17 Championship 2026 after delivering a dominant 3-0 win over Laos in the semi-finals.

The encounter at Gelora Delta Stadium swung decisively in Malaysia’s favour early on when Laos were reduced to 10 men following a red card shown to Bounthasak Chandala in the fifth minute.

Malaysia capitalised almost immediately, opening the scoring in the seventh minute through a penalty taken confidently by Yusuf Nasrullah Ramli. The momentum continued as Aniq Thaqif Hairulnizam doubled the lead just four minutes later, placing the team firmly in control.

With a numerical advantage and a comfortable lead, Malaysia dictated the flow of the game, maintaining possession and restricting Laos from creating meaningful chances.

In the second half, Muzakif Fitri Muhamad added a third goal, effectively putting the result beyond doubt and sealing Malaysia’s progression to the final.

The performance highlighted the team’s discipline and attacking efficiency under head coach Shukor Adan, who has guided the squad confidently throughout the tournament.

Malaysia will now await the outcome of the other semi-final between Vietnam and Australia to determine their opponent in the final.

The championship decider is scheduled for Friday, where Malaysia will look to complete their strong campaign by lifting the title.

The result has further strengthened optimism around Malaysia’s youth football development, with the team showcasing composure, teamwork and promising potential on the regional stage.
