LONGWELL Introduces Biomimetic EC Fan Platform to Improve Energy Efficiency and Reduce Noise
NINGBO: Ningbo Longwell Electric Technology Co., Ltd. (LONGWELL) has expanded its portfolio of industrial air-moving solutions with the introduction of a new biomimetic electronically commutated (EC) fan platform, designed to deliver higher energy efficiency, quieter operation and improved aerodynamic performance for commercial and industrial cooling applications.
The newly launched LWBE3G platform incorporates a nature-inspired backward-curved impeller engineered to enhance airflow efficiency while reducing power consumption across heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) systems, air handling units (AHUs) and data centre cooling infrastructure.
According to LONGWELL, the biomimetic impeller achieves a static efficiency ranging from 73 to 82 per cent, representing an improvement of between five and eight percentage points over conventional EC fan designs. The company said the aerodynamic optimisation also enables energy savings of between eight and 12 per cent while maintaining equivalent airflow performance.
In addition to improved efficiency, the fan platform has been engineered to operate more quietly. LONGWELL reported a reduction in operating noise of between four and six decibels, together with a more than 50 per cent decrease in high-frequency noise levels, contributing to quieter working environments for commercial buildings and industrial facilities.
The company also stated that the redesigned impeller increases stall margin by between 25 and 30 per cent, helping to improve operational stability across varying airflow conditions. Each fan design undergoes computational fluid dynamics (CFD) validation as part of the company’s engineering and product development process.
To support integration into modern building management systems, the EC platform is compatible with multiple communication protocols, including 0–10V control, PWM, Modbus RTU and BACnet MS/TP. The system also incorporates 12 protection functions and features bearings designed for an operational life of approximately 60,000 hours at an ambient temperature of 40 degrees Celsius.
LONGWELL said the platform complies with a range of international standards and certifications, including CE, UL 507, cUL, ETL, RoHS, REACH, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and EN 50155. Airflow performance has also been tested in accordance with AMCA 210 and ISO 5801 standards.
The company highlighted field validation from a European air handling unit retrofit project completed in 2024, where one configuration reportedly achieved energy savings of approximately 30 per cent while operating at an airflow rate of 8,660 cubic metres per hour and pressure exceeding 2,000 pascals.
Another model within the platform delivers airflow of 16,039 cubic metres per hour, allowing it to serve as a direct replacement for selected premium European EC fan models without requiring modifications to existing air chambers.
LONGWELL added that the new platform is supported by sample delivery times of one to three days and production lead times of between 15 and 30 days, enabling manufacturers and system integrators to shorten project implementation schedules.
Chief Executive Officer Bruce Li said the company’s strategy focuses on advancing aerodynamic engineering and product performance, positioning the new biomimetic EC fan platform as a competitive solution for organisations seeking energy-efficient, low-noise ventilation technology across mission-critical cooling applications.
