Children Seek Justice After Parents Killed in Alleged Drunk Driving Crash in Jalan Ampang

KUALA LUMPUR — A grieving family is calling for justice following the tragic deaths of their parents in a road accident believed to involve a drunk driver along Jalan Ampang, an incident that has sparked renewed concern over road safety and reckless driving.

Shathisuaran, 26, the eldest son of the victims, described his late father, A. Doraisingam, 61, as a disciplined individual who lived a healthy and responsible life. He expressed deep anguish over the circumstances of his father’s death, noting the stark contrast between his father’s lifestyle and the alleged actions of the driver involved.

“My father never drank alcohol or smoked. He always prioritised our family, yet his life was taken by someone who chose to drive under the influence,” he said during an interview at the family’s residence in Jalan Raja Laut.

A Devoted Couple Remembered by Their Children

The accident claimed the lives of Doraisingam and his wife, A. Menagah, 56, leaving behind three children who are now struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss. According to Shathisuaran, both parents were deeply committed to their family and maintained a strong sense of responsibility in their daily lives.

He said the loss has been particularly difficult because of the close bond they shared as a family, adding that their absence has left a profound void.

The incident occurred at approximately 5.34am when the couple were travelling on a motorcycle. Doraisingam was reportedly sending his wife to work at Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur when their vehicle was struck by a car believed to have been driven by an intoxicated individual.

Mother’s Dedication to Work Highlighted

The couple’s second child, Pavithra, 24, described her mother as a hardworking and dedicated individual who remained committed to her job despite health challenges.

“She was always active and never liked to sit idle. Even on the day of the incident, she had a fever but insisted on going to work,” Pavithra said.

She added that her mother was approaching a significant milestone, having nearly completed 30 years of service at the hospital where she worked.

The dedication shown by their mother, she said, reflects the values that both parents instilled in their children.

Accident Details and Ongoing Investigation

Initial reports indicate that a Toyota Vios driven by a 24-year-old local man lost control before colliding with the rear of the couple’s motorcycle, a Honda Wave Alpha.

The impact resulted in fatal injuries to both victims. The driver and a front passenger, aged 23, sustained head injuries and are currently receiving treatment in the Red Zone at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

A rear passenger, aged 24, suffered minor injuries and was later discharged before lodging a police report to assist in the investigation.

Authorities have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Family Calls for Accountability

Shathisuaran, along with his siblings Pavithra and Cheran, 19, are now left orphaned and are appealing for justice to be served. They expressed hope that the legal process will hold those responsible accountable and prevent similar tragedies in the future.

“This is not just about our loss. We want justice for our parents and hope no other family has to go through what we are experiencing,” he said.

The case has once again brought attention to the dangers of drunk driving, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement and greater public awareness to prevent further loss of life on Malaysian roads.
