Anwar Holds Strategic Talks with AIIB to Advance Malaysia’s Green and Digital Agenda

KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held strategic discussions with Zou Jiayi, president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), focusing on strengthening Malaysia’s green energy transition and digital infrastructure development.

The meeting centred on key national priorities outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which aim to expand renewable energy capacity, improve energy efficiency, and build a more inclusive and competitive digital ecosystem.

Anwar emphasised that these initiatives are critical in positioning Malaysia to remain competitive in a global economy increasingly shaped by sustainability and technological advancement.

He also highlighted the importance of attracting high-quality investments that deliver long-term economic value, particularly in sectors linked to clean energy and advanced infrastructure.

During the discussions, Anwar welcomed AIIB’s continued commitment to financing strategic infrastructure projects in Malaysia, especially those aligned with national sustainability and digital transformation goals.

The engagement also addressed regional economic integration and the role of private sector participation in accelerating development efforts.

Reaffirming Malaysia’s investment outlook, Anwar said the government remains committed to maintaining a transparent, competitive, and investor-friendly environment, while strengthening domestic economic fundamentals.

He added that in the face of global geopolitical uncertainties, policy stability and long-term planning remain essential to ensuring economic resilience.

Headquartered in Beijing, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is a multilateral development bank established in 2016, with 111 approved members, dedicated to financing sustainable infrastructure across Asia and beyond.

The meeting underscores Malaysia’s continued efforts to leverage international partnerships in advancing its green transition and digital economy ambitions.
