Ahmad Zahid Hamidi: Lembaga Kemajuan Terengganu Tengah Set to Strengthen Role in Sustainable Regional Growth
KUALA LUMPUR: The Lembaga Kemajuan Terengganu Tengah is poised to play an even greater role in driving sustainable regional development, particularly in boosting rural economic growth in Terengganu.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the agency has demonstrated its effectiveness since its establishment in 1973 in improving living standards in rural communities.
He noted that various development initiatives implemented over the years have significantly transformed the socio-economic landscape, including expanding job opportunities and improving basic infrastructure.
Key Driver of Regional Development
Ahmad Zahid highlighted KETENGAH’s role in bridging the development gap between urban and rural areas.
He said its comprehensive approach covers infrastructure development, economic growth and community empowerment, delivering broad benefits to local populations.
“KETENGAH’s role extends beyond physical development to enhancing overall community well-being,” he said.
Ecotourism as a New Growth Engine
He also pointed to the strong potential of ecotourism within KETENGAH-administered areas, which are rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage.
With proper planning and sustained efforts, the sector could emerge as a new driver of income for local communities.
Expanding Economic Opportunities
Ahmad Zahid added that consistent development efforts will create more opportunities for rural residents to improve their livelihoods.
He expressed confidence that an integrated approach will strengthen the resilience and competitiveness of the region in the long term.
Future Outlook
He expressed optimism that KETENGAH will continue to achieve greater success in the years ahead.
Established on April 12, 1973, KETENGAH operates under the Kementerian Kemajuan Desa dan Wilayah and oversees development across more than 653,000 hectares covering Dungun, Kemaman and Hulu Terengganu.
