Govt to Keep Monitoring Prices, Fuel Strategy Under Review, Says Anwar

Kuala Terengganu — The government will continue evaluating price trends and remain prepared to introduce adjustments to fuel-related measures as needed, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.

He confirmed that a key meeting involving the National Security Council (MKN) and the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) will take place to assess current developments from both security and economic perspectives.

Anwar said the session will focus on identifying appropriate responses should conditions worsen, although he reassured that supply levels remain stable at this stage.

Speaking after attending a PKR mini convention, he acknowledged concerns over a potentially critical period in the coming months, particularly surrounding diesel availability and broader global energy challenges.

Responding to questions on possible price revisions or stimulus measures, Anwar said the government is keeping all options under review while closely monitoring the situation.

Earlier, Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir had stressed the need for early intervention to avoid disruptions in domestic supply.

The Prime Minister noted that efforts are already in place to ease the financial burden on the public, including maintaining the subsidised RON95 petrol price at RM1.99 per litre and providing targeted diesel support for school bus operators.

He added that while global price movements influence domestic fuel costs, the government has chosen to absorb part of the increase instead of passing it fully to consumers.

Anwar emphasised that ensuring economic stability while protecting the rakyat remains a key priority as Malaysia navigates external uncertainties.
