Institut Silat Seni Gayong Malaysia Makes History as First Martial Arts Centre Accredited by Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran
KOTA BHARU: Institut Silat Seni Gayong Malaysia has achieved a major milestone by becoming the first martial arts institution in Malaysia to receive official accreditation from the Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran for a silat gayong-based training programme.
JPK director-general Kamaruzaman Md Ali said the accreditation was awarded to ISG Malaysia’s training centre in collaboration with its industry partner, Amru Ventures, under the Akademi Dalam Industri (ADI) framework.
He explained that the ADI model combines theoretical learning with practical exposure, with approximately 20 to 30 per cent of training conducted at the institution and 70 to 80 per cent within a real industry setting.
Elevating Silat Gayong to Professional Standards
Under this structure, ISG Malaysia will oversee academic training, while Amru Ventures manages the industry-based component.
The accreditation marks silat gayong as the first martial art to be formally structured under the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) within the JPK certification system.
Previously, although martial arts such as silat, karate and taekwondo had established training systems, none had pursued formal certification under NOSS.
Comprehensive Evaluation Process
Kamaruzaman said several key criteria were assessed before approval, including training facilities, instructor qualifications, structured curriculum and assessment systems, as well as equipment readiness.
The certification is recognised at the national level, enhancing the credibility and standards of martial arts training in Malaysia.
Creating Professional Pathways
The programme is expected to open career opportunities for trainees as coaches, instructors and professionals in the fitness and security sectors.
It also represents a significant step in modernising and strengthening traditional martial arts to align with current industry demands.
