RM3.4 Million Rahmah Sales Subsidy Introduced in Negeri Sembilan for Aidilfitri
SEREMBAN, March 14 — The government has introduced a RM3.4 million subsidy for the Rahmah Sales programme in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri across Negeri Sembilan, aiming to help residents purchase essential goods at more affordable prices ahead of the festive season.
The initiative will be implemented across eight parliamentary constituencies and 36 state assembly areas throughout the state, running from February 23 until March 29.
Negeri Sembilan State Executive Councillor for Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Climate Change, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs S. Veerapan said the programme was introduced to ease the financial burden faced by households as the demand for essential goods typically rises before the Hari Raya celebration.
He explained that the Rahmah Sales initiative allows residents to purchase selected items at reduced prices through government-supported subsidies.
In addition to the RM3.4 million allocation, the state government has also introduced a subsidy for meat supplies to ensure that consumers can obtain essential food items at lower prices.
A total of 18,000 kilograms of meat will be offered at a discounted price, with a reduction of RM3 per kilogram compared with market prices.
Veerapan said the measure is intended to ensure that families preparing for Hari Raya can obtain key food items at affordable prices despite rising demand during the festive period.
He made the announcement after launching the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) 2026 for Negeri Sembilan in Seremban 2.
The price control scheme will remain in effect until March 28, ensuring that the prices of essential goods remain stable throughout the festive season.
According to Veerapan, the scheme is designed to prevent traders from taking advantage of increased consumer demand by raising prices excessively.
To ensure compliance, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will increase monitoring activities across the state.
Enforcement officers will be deployed to key locations such as markets, supermarkets and major shopping areas where consumer traffic is expected to rise significantly during the festive period.
These monitoring efforts aim to protect consumers and ensure that traders follow the maximum price limits established under the festive price control scheme.
Veerapan also reminded the public to manage their spending wisely while preparing for Hari Raya celebrations.
He said consumers should avoid unnecessary purchases and plan their festive spending carefully in order to maintain financial stability.
The federal government, he noted, has also taken steps to promote responsible spending habits among Malaysians.
One such measure is the cancellation of certain official open house events as a symbolic effort to encourage moderation in festive spending.
Under the SHMMP programme, a total of 23 essential goods have been placed under price control.
These items include large yellow onions, large red onions, red chillies, imported old ginger, imported buffalo meat from India and locally sourced beef excluding tenderloin cuts.
The scheme is intended to maintain price stability and ensure that essential food items remain accessible to the public.
In a related development, Veerapan confirmed that authorities have not received any reports of panic buying in Negeri Sembilan despite geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
He said supplies of essential goods in the state remain sufficient and stable.
Nevertheless, authorities will continue monitoring market conditions to ensure traders do not take advantage of the situation by raising prices unfairly.
The state government remains committed to safeguarding consumer welfare and ensuring the stability of food supplies during the Hari Raya festive season.
