SINBON and Swobbee Expand Battery Swapping Network in New York to Improve Safety and Support Clean Mobility
NEW YORK, Feb 27 — Global electronics manufacturer SINBON Electronics has partnered with battery infrastructure provider Swobbee to expand battery swapping stations for electric bikes across New York City.
The initiative aims to reduce fire risks linked to unsafe battery charging while supporting cleaner and more reliable urban transportation.
New York City has recorded a significant increase in e-bike battery fire incidents in recent years, with damages exceeding US$518 million between 2019 and 2023.
This has prompted authorities to seek safer charging solutions.
Swobbee previously launched a city-supported pilot programme that demonstrated the effectiveness of battery swapping as a safer alternative to conventional charging.
Since launching operations in March 2025, the company has installed multiple swapping stations in Manhattan and Jersey City.
The system allows riders to exchange depleted batteries instantly for fully charged ones.
This eliminates charging delays and reduces reliance on unsafe charging practices.
Following the pilot’s success, Swobbee has received approval to expand its network across all five boroughs.
Dozens of additional stations are expected to be deployed by the end of the year.
SINBON provides advanced connectivity technology to support the network’s safe and efficient operation.
The technology ensures reliable battery integration and improved safety standards.
Since its launch, the system has recorded approximately 150,000 battery swaps, reflecting strong adoption among delivery riders.
The companies said the infrastructure enhances safety while improving operational efficiency.
The partnership is also expected to support the continued growth of New York’s micromobility ecosystem.
