Azam Baki questioned by special panel as probe into shareholding continues

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 22 — Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Azam Baki has appeared before a special investigation committee to provide his statement regarding his share ownership, Chief Secretary to the Government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar confirmed.

Panel reviewing evidence and regulatory compliance

In a statement, Shamsul Azri said the committee convened on February 19 to examine initial findings and assess whether Azam’s shareholding adhered to the relevant legal and administrative requirements.

He noted that the inquiry remains ongoing, with investigators continuing to review documentation and preparing to summon additional witnesses whose testimony may assist in completing the investigation.

He emphasised that the committee is determined to ensure the review process is conducted independently, transparently, and professionally to maintain credibility and public trust.

Outcome to determine next course of action

According to him, the panel’s conclusions and recommendations will be submitted to the appropriate authorities once the investigation is finalised. Any breach of regulations or criminal provisions, if established, could lead to further action.

The special committee is chaired by Attorney General Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar and includes other senior civil service and financial administration officials.

RM800,000 shareholding remains under public scrutiny

The issue emerged after reports indicated that Azam held shares in a financial services firm, based on corporate disclosures.

Azam has maintained that his investment, estimated at RM800,000, was properly declared and undertaken in accordance with established procedures.

The investigation’s findings are expected to be closely watched, given the importance of upholding integrity within Malaysia’s anti-corruption enforcement leadership.
