Leica Introduces Flagship SL3-P Mirrorless Camera with New 50mm and 100mm Lenses for Hybrid Creators

NEW YORK: Leica has expanded its professional imaging portfolio with the launch of the SL3-P, its most advanced full-frame mirrorless camera to date, accompanied by the new Summilux-SL 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. and APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100mm f/2.8 lenses.

Designed for photographers and filmmakers alike, the SL3-P combines Leica’s renowned imaging quality with professional-grade video capabilities, positioning the system as a comprehensive solution for modern hybrid content creators.

At the heart of the camera is a newly developed 44-megapixel backside-illuminated full-frame CMOS sensor capable of delivering up to 14 stops of dynamic range and a native ISO range from 50 to 200,000 for improved low-light performance.

Leica has also introduced a significantly faster sensor architecture that increases readout speeds by up to 156 per cent over previous SL-series models. The upgrade enables continuous shooting at up to 40 frames per second while reducing rolling shutter effects and enhancing high-resolution multishot performance to 176 megapixels.

Autofocus performance has also received a major overhaul through a hybrid system combining phase detection, contrast detection and AI-powered subject recognition across 819 focus points, allowing faster and more precise subject tracking.

On the video front, the SL3-P supports 8.1K Open Gate recording, 4K video at up to 120fps for slow-motion capture and internal Apple ProRes recording up to 5.8K. Professional production features such as HDMI RAW output, False Color monitoring, HDMI mirroring and Leica’s new Pure and Cine LUT profiles further strengthen its filmmaking credentials.

To streamline professional workflows, Leica has integrated Adobe Frame.io Camera-to-Cloud functionality alongside built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity and compatibility with the Leica FOTOS mobile application for remote camera control.

The camera is built around a rugged all-metal chassis with IP54-rated protection against dust and water splashes. Leica has also retained the understated P-Series design by removing its signature red logo, making the camera better suited for documentary, street photography and photojournalism.

Alongside the camera, Leica unveiled the APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100mm f/2.8, a modern reinterpretation of one of the company’s most celebrated macro lenses, featuring 1:1 magnification, fast autofocus and weather-resistant construction.

The second lens, the Summilux-SL 50mm f/1.4 ASPH., is presented as Leica’s most compact full-frame autofocus standard lens, combining a lightweight design with a Voice Coil Motor autofocus system, dual aspherical elements, an 11-blade diaphragm and IP54 weather sealing.

The Leica SL3-P and both newly announced lenses are now available for preorder through B&H Photo, offering professional photographers and filmmakers a next-generation imaging system built for demanding hybrid workflows.
