Three NGOs File MACC Report Over RM1.1 Billion Deal Linked to Former Minister

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 12 — Three non-governmental organisations have formally lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over alleged abuse of power connected to a government agreement valued at nearly RM1.1 billion, reportedly involving a former minister.

The complaint was submitted by Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa), Persatuan Pengguna Islam Malaysia (PPIM), and Pertubuhan Angkatan Nadi Jiwa Islam Malaysia (Panji Malaysia) at MACC headquarters today.

Perkasa president Syed Hassan Syed Ali said the report was filed following the receipt of multiple complaints and documents concerning an agreement signed between the Malaysian government and a foreign company around March last year.

He said the deal allegedly involved services and strategic assets considered significant to the country’s economic interests.

Syed Hassan declined to reveal detailed information about the complaint, citing confidentiality obligations undertaken during the reporting process.

“We have received numerous public inquiries regarding the direction and implementation of this project. We are leaving it to MACC to determine whether there were elements of abuse of power, misconduct, or financial leakages,” he said.

He added that the issue has sparked discussions among governance observers, particularly regarding transparency and accountability in the handling of large-scale government agreements.

Syed Hassan stressed that this is the first formal complaint filed on the matter and affirmed that the NGOs are prepared to cooperate fully with investigators.

He also called for a thorough, impartial and professional investigation should any elements of corruption or governance breaches be uncovered.

“Our priority is to ensure that public funds are managed responsibly and in accordance with the law,” he said.
