SUNGAI SIPUT: New villages across Malaysia have undergone significant transformation following more than RM325 million in development spending over the past three years to upgrade public facilities and housing conditions.

Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming, said a total of 2,750 development projects were implemented by the Kementerian Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan (KPKT) through its New Chinese and Indian Villages Division between 2023 and 2025.

He said the projects covered 613 new villages nationwide, with a total allocation of RM325.3 million.

“Key initiatives included upgrading 1,786 basic facilities, repairing 902 dilapidated houses, building 62 new homes, and installing more than 2,300 solar-powered LED street lights to improve safety and convenience,” he said.

Dedicated Funding for Indian Villages

Nga also announced that RM15 million had been allocated for the development of 89 Indian villages nationwide.

The funds were used to upgrade public infrastructure, community halls, drainage systems, solar lighting, Madani food courts, public markets, and Madani parks.

He added that over the same period, the Local Government Department completed 15,802 public infrastructure projects nationwide.

“When I took office in 2023, I set a target of 5,000 projects annually. In three years, we have surpassed that goal.

“We care, we serve, and most importantly, we deliver,” he said.

Revival of Abandoned Projects

Nga said the ministry had also successfully revived 1,333 sick and abandoned projects, including 34 housing projects under Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia.

“Today, I can confidently say that all PR1MA projects nationwide are now fully completed,” he added.

Meanwhile, strategic partner Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) has completed 19 new houses valued at RM1.51 million.

For this year, the government has allocated RM1.8 million under the Kampung Baru Rumah MADANI Rakyat programme to further enhance residents’ living standards.
