
Heavy rain triggers four fallen tree incidents and flash flood in Selangor
PETALING JAYA: The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received four emergency calls involving fallen trees following heavy rain that hit several areas in the state on Saturday afternoon.
Selangor JBPM Operations Assistant Director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said all four incidents were reported before 5pm, with no injuries or casualties recorded.
He said fire and rescue personnel remained on alert and prepared to respond to any emergency situations, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions.
“Although no victims were involved in all the reported incidents, we will continue monitoring the situation and remain prepared for any possibility,” he said.
Apart from fallen tree incidents, Ashrul Riezal said the department also received another emergency call involving flash flooding in the Petaling Jaya area, with response measures currently being carried out.
Earlier, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a warning on thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds affecting several areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
The warning was expected to remain in effect until 5pm, with several districts placed under close observation due to the possibility of severe weather.
In Selangor, affected areas included Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang, while similar warnings were issued for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
Other affected areas in Peninsular Malaysia included parts of Perak such as Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim, as well as several districts in Pahang including Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Jerantut, Temerloh, Maran, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin.
The weather alert also covered parts of Negeri Sembilan including Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Tampin, along with Alor Gajah and Jasin in Melaka.
In Johor, areas affected by the warning included Segamat, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru.
For Sarawak, MetMalaysia issued warnings for several districts including Saratok, Sarikei, Sibu, Matu, Dalat, Mukah, Song, Kapit, Bukit Mabong, Tatau, Sebauh, Miri and Lawas.
Meanwhile, in Sabah, the affected areas included Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort, Keningau and Tambunan, as well as parts of the West Coast, Beluran in Sandakan, and Kota Marudu and Pitas in Kudat.
Authorities advised the public to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to flash floods, fallen trees and strong winds, while emergency agencies continue monitoring conditions nationwide.
