Anwar Pledges Swift Action on Rengit’s Water Woes if PH Wins Mandate

RENGIT: Prime Minister and Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has pledged to prioritise resolving long-standing water supply issues and other basic infrastructure shortcomings in Rengit if the coalition is given the mandate to govern after the Johor state election.

Addressing supporters during the PH grand finale campaign in the Rengit state constituency, Anwar said improving access to essential public services would remain the government’s immediate priority, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

He said residents in Rengit and other interior areas deserve the same level of development and public facilities as those living in more developed parts of the state, stressing that the government has a responsibility to ensure no community is left behind regardless of race or background.

According to Anwar, Johor’s strong economic standing should be reflected in the quality of basic services available to its people, noting that persistent water supply disruptions should no longer be an issue in a state with significant economic capacity.

Rather than making unrealistic promises, he said the government would focus on listening to the concerns raised by local communities and addressing issues based on actual needs.

Anwar called on voters to give PH the opportunity to continue implementing its development agenda, saying a fresh mandate would enable the coalition to accelerate solutions to longstanding infrastructure challenges affecting Rengit.

He identified water supply as one of the government’s most urgent priorities, alongside improvements to schools, village roads, housing and ageing healthcare facilities.

The Prime Minister said access to clean water, healthcare and quality public infrastructure should take precedence over other development requests, as these services directly affect the daily well-being of residents.

He added that the government’s responsibility extends to addressing the needs of all communities, including Malays, Chinese, Indians and the Orang Asli, particularly those living in less developed and lower-income areas.

Anwar also pointed out that while Johor has attracted major investments and infrastructure projects such as the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, data centres and industrial developments, the government remains committed to ensuring that economic progress is matched by improvements in basic public amenities.

He said balanced development requires both large-scale investments and continued efforts to resolve fundamental issues affecting local communities, ensuring that the benefits of economic growth are shared more broadly across the state.

Also present at the event were Johor Amanah chairman Aminolhuda Hassan and former Rengit assemblyman Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
