Cognizant Integrates GPT-5.5 Into Enterprise Cybersecurity Services Through OpenAI Partnership

TEANECK, N.J., July 3 — Cognizant has expanded its enterprise cybersecurity capabilities by incorporating OpenAI’s GPT-5.5 into its Frontier AI Cyber Defense services, aiming to help organisations accelerate the process of identifying, validating and remediating software vulnerabilities.

The initiative is part of Cognizant’s participation in the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program, through which the technology consulting company is deploying frontier artificial intelligence tools to support security professionals responsible for protecting enterprise software and digital infrastructure.

According to Cognizant, the growing sophistication of AI has significantly increased the speed at which potential security weaknesses can be identified across large and complex software environments. However, the company said vulnerability detection alone is insufficient unless organisations can rapidly determine which findings represent genuine threats and implement tested fixes before attackers are able to exploit them.

The company said its Frontier AI Cyber Defense platform combines GPT-5.5 with Trusted Access for Cyber alongside human expertise to streamline defensive security operations without removing human oversight from decision-making processes.

Cognizant’s cybersecurity practice comprises more than 5,000 security professionals with experience supporting organisations across highly regulated sectors, including industries where governance, compliance and operational resilience are critical requirements.

Sandra Notardonato, Global Head of Partner Development and Influencer Relations at Cognizant, said the value of frontier AI lies not only in the capability of the models themselves but in their practical integration into enterprise security environments.

She said Cognizant’s approach focuses on helping organisations move efficiently from identifying potential exposures to validating risks and deploying effective remediation measures while maintaining appropriate governance and human supervision.

Through the new service, GPT-5.5 is being applied across multiple defensive workflows, including secure code reviews, threat modelling, vulnerability validation, detection engineering, threat hunting and incident response investigations.

The company emphasised that AI-generated outputs remain subject to review by security professionals, with the technology designed to complement existing monitoring systems and security controls rather than replace them.

Before deploying the technology for customers, Cognizant has been using the platform internally under what it describes as a “Client Zero” approach.

Within its own operations, the company applies GPT-5.5 to internal software repositories, products and platforms to improve secure code analysis, vulnerability triage, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) security reviews and other cybersecurity processes.

Cognizant said the operational experience gained from securing its own technology estate enables it to refine implementation practices before extending the same capabilities to enterprise clients.

OpenAI said the collaboration is intended to help organisations adopt advanced AI-powered cyber defence within trusted operational environments.

Colleen Kapase, Vice President of Strategic Global Partnerships and Ecosystems at OpenAI, said combining frontier AI capabilities with established enterprise security workflows allows organisations to strengthen cyber resilience while maintaining governance, monitoring and human oversight.

Both companies said the partnership operates within a framework that includes controlled access, continuous monitoring and responsible deployment practices designed to ensure advanced AI capabilities remain focused on authorised defensive cybersecurity activities.

Cognizant said the collaboration represents an ongoing effort to expand enterprise access to AI-powered cyber defence as organisations seek faster and more effective methods of protecting increasingly complex digital environments.
