Albert Tei Confirms Negeri Sembilan Address, Says Considering Joining Perikatan Nasional
SEREMBAN, July 3 — Businessman Tei Jian Cheing, better known as Albert Tei, has confirmed that his registered residential address is in Negeri Sembilan, rejecting claims questioning his eligibility to contest in the state’s upcoming election.
Speaking to reporters outside the Negeri Sembilan office of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Albert said the address stated on his MyKad is located in Taman Seremban Jaya, dismissing suggestions that he is registered outside the state.
He said those making such claims should verify the facts before issuing public statements.
Albert’s response followed remarks by Negeri Sembilan DAP chairman Anthony Loke Siew Fook, who reportedly suggested that Albert should first change his residential address if he intended to contest the Chennah state seat in the Negeri Sembilan state election scheduled for August 1.
The comments came after Albert publicly expressed his interest in challenging for the constituency currently represented by Anthony Loke.
Responding to the issue, Albert maintained that there was no basis for questioning his registered address, adding that official records already reflected his residence in Negeri Sembilan.
Beyond addressing the residency issue, Albert also revealed that he is in discussions regarding a possible political future with Perikatan Nasional (PN).
He confirmed that he has expressed interest in joining the opposition coalition and said conversations with its leadership are ongoing.
Describing himself as relatively new to active politics, Albert said any decision regarding his role or candidacy would ultimately depend on the coalition’s leadership.
According to him, discussions so far have been encouraging, and he expects to make an announcement on the matter in the near future.
Albert’s appearance in Seremban was not solely related to political developments.
He was also at the MACC office to lodge a report concerning Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and Bukit Kepayang assemblywoman Nicole Tan Lee Koon.
The report relates to allegations involving the disbursement of RM180,000 to a constituency service centre.
Albert claimed the allocation was made one day before the Negeri Sembilan Legislative Assembly was dissolved.
He urged the anti-corruption agency to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter, saying the public should have confidence that all complaints involving public funds would receive equal scrutiny.
The businessman did not elaborate further on the evidence accompanying his report but maintained that the authorities should examine the circumstances surrounding the allocation.
His latest statements come as political activity intensifies ahead of the Negeri Sembilan state election, with parties and prospective candidates positioning themselves before the nomination process.
Albert has increasingly attracted public attention in recent months through his involvement in several political and legal matters, while also indicating his intention to take a more active role in politics.
Whether he will eventually contest under the Perikatan Nasional banner remains subject to discussions within the coalition, but Albert said any confirmation regarding his political future will be announced once those consultations have concluded.
The Negeri Sembilan state election is expected to draw close attention as political parties prepare to contest control of the state legislature, with candidate announcements continuing in the weeks leading up to polling day.
