Police Chase Ends in Multi-Vehicle Crash as Two Men Arrested with Suspected Heroin in Kuala Lumpur

PETALING JAYA: A police pursuit involving a Perodua Viva ended with the arrest of two men after the vehicle crashed into three other cars along Jalan Kuching, where officers also recovered suspected heroin from the suspects’ vehicle.

The incident occurred at approximately 5.30pm after narcotics officers attempted to stop the car for inspection during an operation in Wangsa Maju.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said officers from the Wangsa Maju District Police Headquarters’ Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division had identified the Perodua Viva as behaving suspiciously while carrying out enforcement duties in the area.

According to him, police instructed the driver to pull over for inspection, but the vehicle instead accelerated away, triggering a pursuit that continued from Wangsa Maju towards Jalan Kuching.

“The driver refused to comply with police instructions and attempted to escape.

“During the pursuit, the suspect drove recklessly by weaving between traffic lanes and making dangerous manoeuvres in an effort to evade arrest,” he said in a statement.

The chase came to an end when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle before crashing into three cars that had stopped due to traffic congestion.

The collision involved the suspects’ Perodua Viva together with a Perodua Bezza, a Honda City and another Perodua Viva.

Despite the significant damage sustained by all four vehicles, police confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Both occupants of the Perodua Viva, aged 40 and 42, were immediately detained at the scene.

Subsequent searches of the vehicle uncovered approximately 19.63 grams of suspected heroin, leading investigators to open a drug trafficking investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Police are also investigating the reckless driving aspect of the incident under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 following the dangerous manner in which the vehicle was driven during the pursuit.

The suspects have since been remanded to facilitate further investigations into both the narcotics case and the circumstances surrounding the police chase.

Investigators are continuing to examine the suspects’ activities prior to the incident and determine the source and intended destination of the seized drugs.

Authorities are also reviewing available evidence, including dashboard camera footage and witness statements, as part of efforts to establish the complete sequence of events.

Earlier, videos recorded by road users showing the Perodua Viva speeding dangerously through traffic before crashing into several vehicles circulated widely on social media.

The footage attracted considerable public attention after capturing the dramatic conclusion of the pursuit in a busy section of Jalan Kuching.

Police have appealed to members of the public who witnessed the incident or possess additional information to contact the Sentul District Police Headquarters hotline at 03-4048 2222, the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999, the Jalan Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999, or any nearby police station to assist with ongoing investigations.
