Communications Ministry Opens Election Media Centres Across Johor to Support PRN 2026 Coverage
JOHOR BAHRU: The Ministry of Communications has established dedicated media centres to strengthen news coverage for the 16th Johor State Election, providing journalists with centralised facilities and operational support throughout the election period.
The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Information Department and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) as part of efforts to facilitate efficient reporting and improve the dissemination of verified election-related information.
According to a ministry statement, two primary media centres officially began operations on Friday and will continue serving accredited media personnel until polling day on July 11.
Both facilities will operate daily between 9.00am and 9.00pm, offering journalists a dedicated workspace throughout the campaign period.
One media centre has been established at the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) in Kampung Sabak Awor, Muar, while the second operates from Hotel Seri Malaysia Johor Bahru in Larkin, which is expected to become a major operational hub for election coverage.
The ministry said media practitioners from various organisations are encouraged to utilise the facilities, which have been designed to support reporting activities and provide easier access to official election information.
Besides serving as working spaces, the centres are expected to function as coordination points where journalists can obtain updates and conduct reporting activities more efficiently during the state election campaign.
To further expand accessibility, the ministry has also designated 100 NADI centres across Johor as supporting media facilities.
These additional centres will operate daily from 9.00am until 6.00pm, allowing reporters stationed in different constituencies to access nearby facilities without travelling long distances.
The complete list of participating NADI locations has been made available through the official NADI portal, enabling media organisations to identify the most convenient centres based on their assignment locations.
The expanded network is expected to improve operational efficiency by providing multiple access points for communication, internet connectivity and information sharing throughout the campaign.
Johor’s state election is anticipated to attract significant national attention as major political coalitions prepare to contest for control of the state assembly.
The Election Commission (EC) has scheduled June 27 as nomination day, marking the official start of the election campaign.
Early voting has been fixed for July 7, while the general polling process will take place on July 11, concluding the state’s election exercise.
The Communications Ministry also encouraged both media organisations and the public to rely on official information channels throughout the campaign period to minimise misinformation and ensure accurate reporting.
By establishing dedicated election media infrastructure and mobilising an extensive support network across Johor, the ministry aims to create a more organised reporting environment that enables journalists to deliver timely, comprehensive and reliable coverage from nomination day through to the announcement of the final election results.
