Anwar Orders Home Ministry to Review Rohingya Management Findings Before Any Policy Decision
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the Home Ministry (KDN) to examine findings from a series of inter-agency coordination meetings on the management of the Rohingya community before any government decision is finalised.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the directive was issued during Friday’s Cabinet meeting to ensure that recommendations from various ministries and enforcement agencies are properly evaluated and coordinated.
He said the Home Ministry has been tasked with working closely with the Foreign Ministry and other relevant agencies so that any future measures are implemented in a coordinated and effective manner.
According to Fahmi, issues involving matters such as registration, enforcement and administration require cooperation across multiple government bodies, including local authorities.
Speaking at the post-Cabinet media briefing, he stressed that the government has not reached any final decision regarding the management of the Rohingya community, as discussions among ministries and enforcement agencies are still ongoing.
He said a number of coordination meetings have been held over the past few weeks to review policy options and develop a comprehensive approach before any decisions are announced.
The ongoing consultations involve the National Security Council (NSC), the Home Ministry, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Immigration Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Selangor Menteri Besar’s Office.
Fahmi said the multi-agency engagement is intended to ensure that any future policy or enforcement measures are implemented in a coordinated manner while achieving the government’s intended objectives.
