Heavy Rain Triggers Flash Floods in Putrajaya, JBPM Confirms Situation Under Control

PUTRAJAYA: Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (JBPM) Putrajaya has confirmed that flash flood incidents and water accumulation reported in several areas around the federal administrative capital earlier today remain under control with no victims involved.

Assistant Director of Operations for JBPM Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya, Muhamad Haziq Hazmi, said continuous heavy rainfall across the area caused rising water levels and temporary flooding at several locations.

According to him, the fire department received multiple emergency calls and complaints related to the situation before immediate patrol and monitoring operations were activated by personnel from the Presint 7 and Presint 14 fire and rescue stations.

He said the monitored areas included residential zones in Presint 9 Phase 5 and 6, Tunnel Presint 11, PPAM Seruling Apartment in Presint 5, areas surrounding the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), as well as several locations in Presint 16 and Presint 17.

The fire department also received reports of rising water levels near Alamanda Shopping Centre before immediate inspections were carried out to ensure public safety was not affected.

“Based on current monitoring, the situation remains under control and does not involve any victims or evacuation of residents,” he said in a statement today.

Muhamad Haziq said further inspections were conducted on drainage and water flow systems in areas identified as vulnerable to water accumulation to ensure smooth water movement.

According to him, continuous monitoring is essential to allow authorities to detect rising water levels early and take immediate action if conditions worsen.

He added that the fire department is also utilising closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems in collaboration with Perbadanan Putrajaya through the Putrajaya Command Centre to monitor conditions at several key locations.

He said JBPM Putrajaya remains on full alert due to unstable weather conditions that may trigger flash floods, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

“We will continue intensifying patrols and monitoring activities to ensure the safety of residents and road users remains protected at all times,” he said.

At the same time, members of the public have been advised to remain cautious during heavy rain and avoid flood-risk areas.

He also urged the public to immediately contact authorities if water levels rise or emergency situations occur so that prompt action can be taken.
