Flash Floods Hit Meru After Hours of Heavy Rain, Major Roads Submerged
Residential Areas Affected as Sungai Binjai Water Level Exceeds Danger Threshold
KLANG — Continuous heavy rain since this morning triggered flash floods across several areas in Meru, Selangor, affecting major roads and nearby residential neighbourhoods.
Among the worst-hit locations were Persiaran Hamzah Alang near Pekan Meru, Jalan Abdul Manan, the junction connected to the West Coast Expressway (WCE), as well as the exit ramp from the Setia Alam Highway heading towards Meru near Klang Sentral.
Rapidly rising floodwaters caused major roads to become difficult to pass while traffic congestion worsened across surrounding areas.
Observations at the scene showed several vehicles moving slowly through flooded sections of the road.
Several homes in Taman Meru Indah along Persiaran Hamzah Alang were also reportedly inundated after drainage systems failed to cope with the heavy rainfall.
In one incident near the Setia Alam Highway exit ramp, a car became stranded after plunging into a roadside drain at a bend beneath a flyover near a supermarket.
The incident is believed to have occurred after floodwaters submerged the road, making it difficult for the driver to distinguish between the road surface and the drain.
However, Royal Malaysia Police through the North Klang district police headquarters later confirmed that floodwaters in the area had subsided and the road was once again safe for motorists.
Meanwhile, monitoring at nearby rivers showed that Sungai Damansara remained under control with no danger warnings issued.
However, Sungai Binjai in Pekan Meru recorded water levels exceeding the danger threshold at 4.05 metres compared to the normal level of 3.80 metres.
The situation has raised concerns among residents, particularly if heavy rain continues in the coming days.
Unstable weather conditions over the past several days have also increased the risk of flash floods in other parts of the Klang Valley.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious, avoid flooded routes and continue monitoring the latest weather updates issued by authorities.
