Sungrow Becomes Among First to Secure Full EU Battery Regulation Compliance Across ESS Portfolio
HEFEI, April 30 — Sungrow has achieved a significant milestone in the global energy storage sector after completing conformity assessments under the European Union’s Battery Regulation, positioning itself among the first companies worldwide to meet the stringent requirements across its entire energy storage system (ESS) portfolio.
The certification, conducted by TÜV Rheinland, confirms that Sungrow’s products comply with the EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, a comprehensive framework governing the lifecycle of batteries. The assessment covers utility-scale, commercial and industrial (C&I), as well as residential energy storage solutions.
Meeting One of the World’s Strictest Battery Standards
The EU Battery Regulation is widely regarded as one of the most rigorous regulatory frameworks globally, setting unified standards across all stages of a battery’s lifecycle, from manufacturing and operation to repurposing and recycling.
Comprising nearly 100 provisions and multiple technical annexes, the regulation is being implemented in phases, gradually increasing compliance requirements for manufacturers seeking access to the European market.
Industry observers note that adherence to this framework is rapidly becoming a prerequisite not only within the EU but also in other markets that follow similarly high regulatory benchmarks.
Comprehensive Assessment Across Product Lines
Sungrow’s conformity assessment focused on key provisions already in force, including restrictions on hazardous substances, performance benchmarks, durability standards and safety requirements for stationary energy storage systems.
The evaluation also examined compliance with labelling and marking rules, as well as battery management indicators such as state of health (SOH) and expected lifespan.
Under the Module D1 conformity assessment procedure, which includes rigorous auditing of quality management systems and ongoing compliance monitoring, TÜV Rheinland verified that Sungrow’s products meet the required standards.
Among the systems assessed were the PowerTitan for utility-scale applications, as well as the PowerStack and PowerKeeper solutions designed for commercial and industrial use, along with the company’s full range of residential battery products.
Strengthening Position in European Market
The successful certification enhances Sungrow’s standing in the European energy storage market, providing a strong compliance foundation as regulatory scrutiny intensifies.
By aligning with EU standards early, the company is positioning itself to capitalise on growing demand for reliable and sustainable energy storage solutions driven by the region’s energy transition goals.
The move also reflects a broader industry trend, where manufacturers are increasingly prioritising regulatory readiness to maintain competitiveness in global markets.
Supporting the Energy Transition
Energy storage systems play a crucial role in integrating renewable energy sources such as solar and wind into power grids, helping to stabilise supply and improve energy efficiency.
With stricter regulations shaping the future of battery technologies, compliance is becoming a key differentiator for companies operating in this space.
Sungrow’s achievement underscores its commitment to meeting evolving international standards while supporting the global shift towards cleaner energy systems.
Looking Ahead
As the EU continues to roll out additional requirements under its battery regulation framework, companies will face increasing pressure to adapt their technologies and processes.
Sungrow’s early compliance across multiple segments highlights its readiness to navigate this evolving landscape and reinforces its position as a key player in the global energy storage industry.
