YAPEIM Allocates RM16.44 Million for 356 Housing Projects to Improve Living Standards Nationwide
PASIR PUTEH: The Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (YAPEIM) has allocated RM16.44 million to implement 356 housing construction and repair projects nationwide from 2020 until December 2025, as part of its long-term commitment to improving the living conditions of underprivileged communities.
YAPEIM Director-General Zabidi Nasan said that 260 of the projects have been completed, while the remaining 96 are currently at various stages of construction.
He explained that the housing initiative is not merely about providing shelter, but about restoring dignity, security and hope to families facing difficult socio-economic conditions.
“These projects reflect our commitment to ensuring that vulnerable groups, including low-income families, single parents and the elderly, can live in safe and comfortable homes,” he said.
Focus on Rural and High-Need Areas
Zabidi noted that in Kelantan alone, YAPEIM has implemented 49 projects, comprising 28 new house constructions and 21 repair works, with a total allocation of RM2.4 million.
He said rural and flood-prone areas are prioritised, as many residents still live in dilapidated structures that pose safety risks.
“Many beneficiaries previously lived in unsafe houses affected by age, weather or natural disasters. These projects help them rebuild their lives with greater confidence,” he said.
During the Sinar Lestari YAPEIM programme, a new house valued at RM85,284 was handed over to a recipient, Siti Rubiah Jusoh, through collaboration with Cagamas Berhad.
Expanding Annual Targets
In 2025 alone, YAPEIM successfully built and repaired 80 houses nationwide and aims to increase this figure by at least 10 per cent in 2026, subject to available funding.
Zabidi said rising living costs and the impact of natural disasters have increased demand for housing assistance.
“We will continue strengthening partnerships with government agencies and strategic partners to expand our reach,” he said.
Long-Term Contribution Since 1985
Since its establishment in 1985 until November 2025, YAPEIM has distributed more than RM725 million to over 10.1 million beneficiaries through various economic, educational and social programmes.
According to Zabidi, YAPEIM adopts a holistic approach that integrates financial assistance, microfinancing, education support and community welfare.
“Our objective is to help communities become resilient, independent and capable of breaking the cycle of poverty,” he said.
Role of Ar Rahnu YAPEIM
In addition to housing initiatives, YAPEIM operates Ar Rahnu YAPEIM, a microfinancing scheme with 201 branches nationwide.
From 2000 to November 2025, the scheme has served nearly one million clients, with total financing of RM14.2 million and pledged assets valued at RM28.6 billion.
Zabidi said the scheme plays a crucial role in supporting small traders and micro-entrepreneurs by providing fast and affordable financing.
Supporting National Social Development
Zabidi emphasised that YAPEIM’s housing programme aligns with the MADANI government’s vision of building a compassionate and inclusive society.
He said access to safe housing is fundamental to family stability, children’s education and long-term social development.
“With sustained support, we believe this programme will continue to transform lives and contribute to a more equitable and prosperous Malaysia,” he said.
