Two Police Personnel Held in Remand Over Suspected RM10,000 Bribe Case
Kuala Lumpur — Two police personnel have been remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) following allegations that they accepted bribes totalling around RM10,000 in exchange for releasing detained massage parlour workers.
The suspects, both men in their 30s, are believed to have abused their positions by arranging the release of four individuals who were reportedly working under social visit passes.
Kuala Lumpur MACC director Mohamad Zakkuan Talib confirmed that the investigation is being carried out under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, which deals with corruption offences involving gratification.
A remand order for five days, ending April 17, was granted by Magistrate Arunjothy M Selvaraju after the MACC filed an application at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrates’ Court.
Sources revealed that the arrests were conducted in stages across several locations in the capital, including one operation linked to the MACC office. The suspects were picked up at different times, one late at night and the other in the early morning hours.
Preliminary findings suggest that both individuals had collaborated in carrying out the alleged offence on April 12. Investigators believe that a sum of approximately RM7,000 was handed over earlier in the day, followed by an additional RM3,000 later that same night.
Authorities moved in shortly after the final payment was allegedly completed, leading to the detention of both suspects.
The case underscores ongoing enforcement efforts to curb corruption within law enforcement agencies. Investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged bribery and to determine whether further arrests may follow.
