Tuberculosis Cases Decline in Malaysia, No New Clusters Detected as Health Ministry Strengthens Screening

KOTA BHARU, March 2 — Malaysia has reported a decline in tuberculosis (TB) infections, with no new clusters identified, indicating improved control of the disease, according to the Ministry of Health.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said 417 cases were recorded during Epidemiological Week 7 this year, compared with 482 cases during the same period last year, marking a drop of 65 cases.

He said the improvement reflects the effectiveness of preventive and monitoring efforts.

Declining trend signals progress in disease control

Dr Dzulkefly said ongoing public health strategies have contributed to reducing infections.

He said early detection, close monitoring, and timely treatment have played key roles.

He noted that no new clusters have been detected so far.

However, he said the ministry remains cautious.

Expanded screening to detect cases early

He said screening programmes will continue to focus on high-risk groups.

Public awareness efforts will also be intensified.

He said early diagnosis helps prevent further transmission.

Public cooperation remains essential

Dr Dzulkefly urged individuals experiencing symptoms to seek medical attention promptly.

He said wearing face masks can help reduce transmission risk.

He added that public cooperation is vital to sustaining progress.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating TB as a public health threat.
