Seremban Records Over 550 Fraud Cases With Losses Exceeding RM15.7 Million

SEREMBAN: Authorities in Seremban have recorded 552 fraud-related cases involving total losses exceeding RM15.7 million from January until yesterday, highlighting the continued threat posed by commercial crimes and scam activities.

Seremban district police chief Mohd Yatim Osman said the number of cases recorded this year was higher compared to 523 cases reported during the same period last year.

However, he noted that the total amount lost by victims this year was significantly lower compared to RM29.7 million recorded previously.

“So far, 552 investigation papers involving fraud cases have been opened with losses amounting to more than RM15.7 million.

“Although the number of cases has increased slightly compared to last year, the total financial losses have decreased considerably,” he told reporters after the Seremban district police chief handover ceremony today.

Criminal Breach of Trust Cases Also Reported

Mohd Yatim Osman also revealed that 10 criminal breach of trust cases were recorded in the district this year, involving losses totalling approximately RM1.78 million.

While the number of cases declined compared to 12 cases during the same period last year, the total losses were substantially higher than the RM312,000 previously recorded.

Meanwhile, police also recorded 37 cases under the Moneylenders Act with losses amounting to RM4,740.

During the same period last year, 19 such cases were reported with losses nearing RM20,000.

No Cybercrime Cases Reported

According to Mohd Yatim, no cybercrime cases have been reported in Seremban so far this year, compared to four cases recorded last year involving losses exceeding RM83,000.

He said the police would continue intensifying crime prevention efforts, including public awareness campaigns related to online scams and evolving syndicate tactics targeting the public.

New Police Chief Pledges Continued Commitment

During the ceremony, Azahar Abdul Rahim officially handed over duties to Mohd Yatim Osman following his mandatory retirement.

The event was witnessed by Negeri Sembilan police chief Alzafny Ahmad.

Before this appointment, Mohd Yatim served as Senior Assistant Director of Traffic Control at Bukit Aman’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department.

He said his immediate priority is to continue existing programmes and operational strategies to ensure public safety and order in Seremban remain well maintained.

Mohd Yatim also expressed hope that strong cooperation between police personnel and the local community would further strengthen efforts to combat crime in the district.
