PKR Shah Alam Says Only Three Committee Members Officially Quit Party

SHAH ALAM: Mohd Najwan Halimi has clarified that only three committee members from the Parti Keadilan Rakyat Shah Alam branch officially resigned from the party voluntarily, dismissing claims of a larger internal exodus.

He said an internal review conducted by the branch leadership found that only three individuals had personally confirmed their decision to leave the party.

The clarification came after reports surfaced claiming that 21 branch committee members had resigned and quit the party immediately.

“The branch committee conducted checks on the names mentioned in the media statement and found that only three committee members officially confirmed their resignation from the party.

“We believe this small group was influenced by certain individuals who were disappointed after losing in the party elections previously,” he said in a statement today.

Claims of Internal Political Influence

Mohd Najwan Halimi claimed the move was believed to be influenced by a party leader dissatisfied after failing to secure positions during the party’s central and branch elections last year.

While he did not directly mention any names, the statement was widely believed to be referring to former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli.

Najwan, who also serves as Selangor’s Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship exco member, stressed that attempts to destabilise the branch would not weaken the party’s structure in Shah Alam.

Dissatisfaction Over Decision-Making Process

Earlier, several individuals who claimed to have resigned said they were unhappy with the branch and central leadership, alleging they were excluded from discussions and decision-making processes.

They also criticised the branch leadership for allegedly failing to practise consultation and collective decision-making within the organisation.

However, Mohd Najwan Halimi maintained that the Shah Alam branch remains stable and united despite the controversy.

“The PKR Shah Alam branch remains strong and will not bow to any internal attempts aimed at weakening the party,” he said.

Focus Remains on Grassroots Work

He also assured party members that the branch machinery would continue focusing on grassroots engagement and preparations for upcoming elections.

According to him, any efforts to create internal instability would not disrupt the party’s commitment to serving the people and strengthening its organisation moving forward.
