
Sarawak Rewards SOPMA Medal Winners with RM399,000, Reinforcing Commitment to Inclusive Sports
KUCHING, Feb. 21, 2026 – The Sarawak government has awarded RM399,000 in financial incentives to medal winners of the Malaysia Deaf Games (SOPMA) 2025 in recognition of their achievements and to support inclusive sports development.
Sarawak Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Fatimah Abdullah said the incentives were given to athletes from Sarawak as well as medalists from other participating states.
She said the initiative demonstrates the state’s commitment to supporting Deaf athletes.
Recognition for athletes’ dedication and performance
Fatimah said the incentives recognise the athletes’ dedication.
She hopes the rewards will motivate them to achieve greater success.
She said Deaf athletes have strong potential.
Incentives based on medal achievements
Out of the total allocation, RM60,000 was awarded to 22 Sarawak athletes.
Gold medalists received RM5,000.
Silver medalists received RM2,000.
Bronze medalists received RM1,000.
The same incentive structure applied to all medal winners.
Games strengthen inclusive sports ecosystem
The Malaysia Deaf Games provide an important platform.
Sabah emerged as overall champion.
Sarawak finished second.
The event strengthens inclusive sports development.
